10 Amazing Ecommerce Email Marketing Examples

Written by Rob Lane.

1. Overview

We love well designed email – it’s part of what we enable our customers to create every day. Email that looks great and has clear messaging consistently gets more opens, clicks and conversions. These days it’s pretty much mandatory to make sure your email looks good, reads well, and provides a clear benefit to readers.

This post could easily be about why all of the above matters, but that’s for another time. We thought it would be fun to share examples of amazing email from a company who clearly knows how to say more with less: J. Crew.

We didn’t intend to make this a tribute to the popular retailer – the post was meant to capture amazing email examples from around the ecommerce world – but given the examples below, it should become obvious why it turned out this way.

Note: we don’t know any particulars about the campaigns; number of customers, targeting, or how each email performed. All we know is that we think these are visually amazing emails.

Enjoy!

How’s this for a welcome email? Quick, simple and you know what to expect in future email messages.

J-crew-white
The white on white works well here. The seasonal reference is really clever too.

Notice that the messaging offers more than one incentive to visit a store. Make sure your email motivates your customers to act!

j-crew-mouse
Cute meets clever – so much so that we’re willing to forgive the pun.

The background image in this one is brilliant. Doesn’t it make you feel happy… and hungry?

J-Crew-Young-Girl
The background “40%” gets the message across immediately.
j-crew-post-it

Our personal favourite. J. Crew clearly knows a segment of their audience shops while at work…while on break that is.

This email gets the message across very quickly. Now, who wants kiwi?

The white against the warmer background makes the message pop for the reader.

In this, and all examples, J. Crew does a great job of making sure the background images don’t distract from the messaging.
